Well, there is rural legends but not all are true, like ones about local wildlife interbreeding into savage beasts killing all the other animals, they are not true (obviously lol) but there is ones that are true like the moose that mounted a fake plastic deer used as a target object for bow-hunting, he mistook it as a female moose and the 700-pound bull squished it so much it needed to be repaired lol and thats about all i can think of cos im tired but i hope this is the answer you was looking for Tigg, if not then i dunno lol. :)

I guess the idea is that "regular" legends are rural legends.

That said, "urban legend" is kind of a misnomer, they're not restricted to cities. The term "urban" mostly implies modernity and "civilization", as opposed to rural areas where legends were, for a long time, attributed to a sort of backward mentality and cultural isolation.
Naming something an urban legend doesn't necessarily mean it's a legend inherent to cities, but rather that it's a legend that circulates even in cities.

        Au contraire.

Bigfoot (Sasquatch) is hardly ever sighted in the city. There are crop circles and UFOs, too, although the latter sometimes show up where there are numerous observers.

There are tons of them. But you have to be brought up in a rural region to hear a story. Then again, you may be part of that story. We pretty much keep that stuff to ourselves.

Urban legends just get more publicity. You can go into any small village/town in Kentucky or Tenn., or any place else in the rural south and each little village has their own legend of some local mountain man or hermit or 50 foot grizzly bear. Luckily, all this nonsense STAYS local!

Because there is a big lack of communication with these kind of things. Whenever these kind of events occurred or happened in these kind of area. They are just whisper for the Urban!

Hi tiggs, Yes it's been awhile. I am back but don't know how active I will be. Missed you all. That said, the reason that there are urban legends and not rural legends I believe, is fairly mundane unfortunately. Due to the very nature of these "legends" they are spread by word of mouth and therefore need a certain level of density to be spread. If there are only a few people to hear your story, it will never carry on to be told to others. Besides that people in rural settings, traditionally do not travel much and therefore it never leaves the immediate vicinity where the tale may be passed around. Most of those stories that are more of a "rural legend" are often considered "old wives tales".

RURAL legends? No such thing... If its bizarre and "happens" in the rural SOUTH.... Then its REAL. LOL. People are just too strange around here for them to NOT be real.

Is a rural legend the same thing as a tall tell/tale. What about people actually paying money for a thing called a pet rock. How about the first lung respirator being made with strawberry shortcake tins.nothing is stranger than the truth.how about a bird that swims and fish that flies.

May be because, Rural people couldn't get enough communication means to convey their Legends and most of the time(in many countries including South Asia) their Legends gets referred to Mumbo-Jumbo or Superstitious too.
