What Is The French For 'I Love You'?

Answer Question

The usual phrase would be "Je t'aime." (pronounced, more or less, zhe TEM.) Je = "I", te is a form of "you" and aimer means "to love."

However, it depends on who you are talking to. This is because French, like most European languages apart from English, has two words for "you." Tu (or its other forms, te, toi etc) is the friendly, familiar form, used with only one person who is a friend or a child. Vous (or votre, meaning "your") is the formal polite version, used with strangers, acquaintances etc - and also, this form is always used for more than one person. So if you love two people (!) you would say "Je vous aime" (prononced roughly zhe vooz EM.) Aimer can also mean simply "to like" so it is possible that you might want to say this sometime.
