The writer had used the continuity of things as theme in the novel. On the larger scale, Time holds its sway and keeps the things same and the similar. As usual no one could have better interpreted the theme then the writer himself."But great are the ravages of Time and no one can do anything against its indomitable might. Centuries and an eons pass. But never a smile lights up the inscrutable face of Time. Life goes on with a heartless continuity, trampling ideals and worlds under its ruthless feet, always in search of the new,destroying, building and demolishing once again with the meaningless petulance of a child who builds a house of sand only to raze it to the ground".
Continuity of Things:
Dhum! Qalanadar, God will give,
Dhum! Qalanadr, God alone;
Milk and sugar, God will give,
Dhum! Qalanadar, God alone.
The were ever so many,The categories are always ever so many. Whenever the writer has categorized something he has tried to look it in the context of continuity and eternity. This is perhaps one of the very few occasions the writer becomes philosophical in this novel.
The wings:We find the same philosophy of the continuity in the description f pigeons we can find it ever in the mention of pigeon wings."Other pigeon-fliers were shouting, and the sky was full of wings, ever so many."
