Can Culture Change Anything?

Culture is the word used to refer to patterns of human activity and the symbolic structures which give significance to these activities. It is basically the way of arts, belief, values and institutions which are passed down from one generation to another.

Culture is the root cause of many things that happen in our society. If someone is able to change the culture of a society, it means he is being very influential. However, it depends on whether the culture is good or bad. For example, in most of the Asian countries, the cultural values of individuals bound them to be nice to their elders and respect and help them in whatever way they can. This is good thing. But due to media and western influence, this culture is rapidly changing. And now people are reluctant to help out their elders. So a change in culture brought so much change in the society there.

So I think you must never loose heart and always work for the betterment of the society. It takes time but one person can change the world.

Well, as Lily_j said, we change culture more than culture changes us. Educating the youth is the key. I think a complete overhaul of the educational system is in order. Most schools don't teach, they just demand students memorize. Where's the reasoning, the critical thought, the thirst for knowledge and wisdom? I may be naive, but i believe that this can go a long way in fixing the ills of society.
