A virus that infects humans would be a microscopic particle (that could be anything from 20 to 300 nm in size) which could infect the various cells of a biological organism. Note that viruses are only able replicate themselves when they infect a host cell.
Viruses are the leading cause of a large number of extremely serious human diseases. Some of the common ones would include AIDS, the common influenza as well as rabies. Keep in mind that therapy in such cases would be difficult considering antibiotics have no visible effect on viruses. Add this to the fact that there are very few proven antiviral drugs and you have a serious problem.
Your best bet in prevention of such viral diseases would be vaccination, which produces immunity.
