How Can One Tell If Their Cat Is In Pain?
My 14 yr. Old cat has the return of a malignant tumor which is continuing to grow. He is eating, but has slowed down tremendously. How can I tell if he's in pain?
Answers
When a cat is in pain, they often will not eat. So, if he is eating, that is probably a good sign. Watch his fluid intake and make certain he is drinking water. The kidneys are often the first to fail on a male cat, especially. Talk to your vet - there are pain inhibitors that he can take - but there may be no need, yet.
Also, cats will tend to "hide away" when they are in pain, so watch where he goes. If he favors being under the bed or behind the couch, he's probably hurting.
