Verona a town situated in the region of Veneto in north eastern Italy is famous for its history and ancient culture; the population of Verona is approximately 2, 70,000 with a density of about 1,200 persons per sq km. In the Middle Ages Verona was one of the most important cities in Italy along side Florence, Venice, Milan, Genoa and Rome.
In later times the city was successively a part of several empires until it became officially part of Italy in 1866 after the defeat of the Austrians at Sadowa which led to the unification of Italy under the Sardinian monarch Victor Emmanuel I. Verona is situated on the banks of the Adige River. Verona has had a long history of different ethnic groups settling in the region though today the population is predominantly Italian. The town is well known for its ancient monuments and hence has become a world famous tourist destination.
