When studying cosmetology, the books claim that your body actually does lose it's ability to create pigment. For some, it happens as they age. For others, it is an inherited trait passed on through genetics. This is supposedly why some people gray at an early age.

People hair to turn grey because of steady decrease of pigmentation; in other words the hair loses their ability to create pigment in old age. This can be due to age, stress or worries.
