Freddie Mercury died on the 24th November 1991. When it was revealed that Freddie had AIDS, he claimed that he didn't. However, the rumours continued and the scepticism increased due to his appearance in 'These Are the Days of Our Lives'.

Finally, on the 22nd November 1991, Freddie met up with Queen's manager to reveal that he had AIDS and to arrange a public statement. He made the statement on the 23rd November, confirming that he had AIDS and that he had wished to keep his illness private.

The following day, Freddie died at the age of 45 as a result of bronchial pneumonia which had been brought on by the AIDS.

Freddie continues to be a success worldwide, and has been voted into a number of polls, including being ranked 58 the 100 Greatest Britons in 2002, and coming second in MTV's 22 greatest singers of the past 25 years.

Freddie's solo single 'Living on My Own' only reached number 50 when it was first released in 1985. However, when it was re-released in 1993 and remixed, it reached number 1 in the UK, and stayed at the top sot for 2 weeks.
