Are Cold Sores Spreadable?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Cold sores are caused by a virus called Herpes Virus Type 1. Most people are infected with this virus but usually have no symptoms or signs of the infection. However, when one gets sick or is stressed, the infection can flare up and produce a cold sore in the lips (and sometimes in the eyes or another part of the face) The infection can be spread through personal contact, e.g kissing, especially when the infected person has a sore.

I forgot to mention that there's also a Herpes Simplex Virus Type-2 which causes genital herpes ( a sexually transmitted disease) and behaves very much like Herpes Simplex Type-1 and is also contagious.
