This Question Is Answered:
Hello, I do safe drinking water development and am interested in location of certain minerals in Kenya. Diatomite and laterite being two. Is the Diatomite of good enough quality for use as water treatment? Is the laterite available in many areas of the country?

From what little I know of the geology of Kenya, you won't have to worry much about mineral contaminants from it other than iron. Whether it could be used to filter water depends on the grain size more than anything else. Different types of laterites should be fairly common, anywhere there has been extensive chemical erosion. I know that some of them have been successfully used to build roads all over that part of africa.
