Is Gardening An Expensive Hobby?

Basically gardening can be as cheap or expensive a hobby as you want to make it.
Some people lavish a lot of money on their garden and buy the most expensive plants from the most expensive garden centres.  
Other people garden on a tight budget and make their own compost (thereby reducing costs) and using seeds to grow new plants.  You can even take cuttings from the plants in friends and neighbours' gardens which will further reduce costs.
One hidden cost of gardening  is the amount you will pay for equipment and tools.  In order to garden successfully you will need all sorts of tools from a dibber to a hoe to a lawnmower and these costs can soon mount up.  If you are on a tight budget perhaps you should ask friends and family to buy you specific items for your birthday or Christmas, which may seem slightly unluxurious, but can save you quite a bit of money over the year !
