The Great Compromise, another name given to the Connecticut Compromise that took place in the year 1787 in the United States of America, was arrived at in the establishment of legislative bodies. The Great Compromise was to plan out the number of representatives that every state would have in the Congress. After a lot of debate, the members of the meeting determined that they would merge two plans, a plan which was supposed to be founded on the basis of population, namely the Virginia Plan, as well as a plan which required equal representation, namely the New Jersey Plan. The Compromise was devised on a large basis mainly by Roger Sherman, who was from Connecticut, who thus played a big role in establishing the Senate and the House of Representatives.
