This Question is Answered

My 6 Yr. Old, Female, Maltese/bichon Mix Eats Cats And Dogs Feces, Though Not Her Own. I Read It Can Be An Iron Deficiency, But I'm Not Sure. I Tried A Product "Dis-taste", But Nothing Changed. Feedback?

What causes a dog to want to eat feces? Does this behavior have a relation to iron? I tried various products to discourage this behavior, but none have worked. Any other suggestions to stop this behavior?

    Hi Ivette,

We have three dogs, two Dalmatians who are 14-1/2 years old and a Boston terrier who is 2 years old.

We found that they do this mostly out of boredom. Our two "old folks" as we like to call them taught our Boston this disgusting habit; they all eat each others' and their own feces. What a disappointment.

There's not much we can do about it. There is something that sold at vet's offices (the name escapes me) which is put on the pup's food and is supposed to be quite discouraging. We have not tried this yet, but I'm sure we will very, very soon!

Good luck and let us know how this turns out for you!
