Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

A Comet is basically a small body that encircles or orbits the sun. Popularly, it is known as a shooting star. There is a visible tail of every comet that we see on the sky. A Comet is made up of ice, dust and also small rocky particles.

Comets and Asteroids are often mistaken as alike, whereas they are quiet different from each other. Comets are formed in the outer Solar System whereas Asteroids are formed in the inner solar system. Also, the comets have a tail whereas Asteroids do not have a tail.

There are approximately 3628 comets in the world. Some of them are classified as short period comets as they have an orbital period of less than 200 years whereas some of the comets are classified as long period comets as they have an orbital period of more than 200 years.
