Yes. The main concern for a pregnancy and the proximity of a cat is the transmission of an infectious condition called as toxoplasmosis. This transmission takes place when one comes into contact with the contaminated faeces of the cat. Stray cats or those who stay outdoors have a greater likelihood of contracting toxoplasmosis that cats who generally stay indoors.

If a woman possesses immunity towards toxoplasmosis before she got pregnant, then she need not be concerned about the baby's safety. Around fifteen percent of women in the USA are immune to the infection, and the probability of immunity is greater for women who have been exposed to cats for a long period of time.

It would be advisable to go through a test for immunity if you have a cat and are thinking of getting pregnant. Consult your doctor for further advice.
