What Can Be Done About A Doctors Office Staff Member That Uses My Ailments Against Me?

Answer Question

I would discuss it with the dr. There is a confidentiality agreement and they have no right to comment on anything about your health.

Complain to the the dr and to the staff manager. I had a staff member at my dr's office fired recently when she commented on the medications that I was on and that perhaps my problems weren't really physical, perhaps mental. She did not know my complete medical history, nor was she qualified to comment on my medical conditions.

Staff "managers" or rarely any manager will actually do anything about a complaint. I would take it a step further and go directly to the Dr. And inform him that if his staff does not stop this, I will report him/her to the State Board of Medical Examiners.

I have to say that you are probably correct in that. In my case I complained directly to my doctor. She just about exploded as there had apparently been problems with this person before. She was immediately placed on leave and was fired.

Put in a complaint to the State Board of Medical Examiners. There is a such thing as a HIPPA Agreement (privacy act). Or at least tell your Dr. That you do not appreciate these types of comments from the staff and if she continues this, that you will put a complaint into the SBME. That will scare him enough to at least have a chat with his staff. And it will show her that you will not stand idly by while she makes comments and gives her uneducated opinions.

You need to talk to the office manager right away.  This person does not need to be working in the medical field, chances are you are not the only one that she (or he) is bothering.
