The word plot is primarily used in stories and scripts and it defines a set of events that are related to each other in some way and are responsible to take the story in the forward direction. If a plot of a story is coherently written it gives the direction to the story and makes it reach to the logical sequence.
          
Several thinkers have given different definitions for the term plot and according to Aristotle you can define plot in literature as 'the arrangements of incidents that each follow from other in a plausible way'. You can say that a plot provides the guideline through which a story moves.
