What Is The "Bridge To Nowhere"?

What is the "bridge to nowhere"? I believe it is a political reference, but I still don't know exactly what it is...could someone please explain it to me? Thanks a bundle in advance.

    Actually it was a bridge in alaska  that was going to cost millions of dollars to build...it was going to an island or something and very few people was going to use it in the first place..sarah palin made a big deal saying she stopped the bridge from being built...but she didn't have anything to do with it...common sense kept it from being built..the handful of people who would have used it still use the ferry...that bridge was labeled the bridge to nowhere

      It is wasteful project that have no value to anyone except for the fact that someone builds something regardless of it public use, economic value to a community or even it's dependability. It is just basically stealing money knowing that the project has no use or value aside from the money given for the project.

        There isn't just one bridge to nowhere really. A few of them in my state actually. Check it out at www.wikipedia.org there is a list of them in there. Hope this helps.
