There are a number of towns and cities in the UK where one can find a large number of churches like in Edinburgh or in Cambridge but the maximum concentration of churches is found in of course the ancient and historic capital city of London. In fact since medieval times the city has always been known as an important religious center of the country; at one time before the great London fire (1666) the city was known to house a large number of churches with the ancient part of London having over a 100 churches.
Some of the famous churches in England are relatively modern dating from the late 17th and 18th century; among the famous ones mention may be made of Westminster Cathedral, Westminster Abbey, St Paul's Cathedral, Wesley's Chapel and Temple Church which is one of the oldest in the city built in the 12th century by the Knights Templar.

If it has to be churches, then probably you are right. But if you include non-conformist chapels as churches, then many towns in Wales would be strong contenders, as they seem to have a chapel on almost every corner.
You are right about Cambridge too, as each college has its own chapel, which is regarded as an Anglican church.
