What Does The Glycemic Index Signify?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Overall, there is a huge and protean variety of carbohydrate foods available to people.  Nevertheless the content of carbohydrates present in each food differs from the other one.  Moreover the behavior of these foods in our bodies varies as well.  It is basically the Glycemic Index, which is more concisely referred to as the GI, that elucidates the difference of various carbohydrate foods, in relation to the extent of impact they have on the human blood glucose levels.

This is done by providing a ranking chart, which is more specifically called the Glycemic Index.  In other words, a Glycemic Index illustrates the impact of a carbohydrate food over the magnitude of insulin secretion in the blood.  Basically the food that affects the blood sugar insulin secretion level to the least extent is the most effective one of all.  In terms of the Glycemic Index, the slower the rate of the insulin secretion in the blood, the lower the number of the food in the Glycemic Index.  The situation is vice versa with foods, which expedite the secretion of insulin in the blood.
