    Chickenpox is a common childhood infectious illness. It causes a blistery rash that can cover the whole body, or just product a few spots. It is caused by a virus so makes you feel feverish and 'fluey'.

    Chickenpox infection caused by the varicella-zoster virus, one of the herpes viruses. This same virus causes the condition shingles, which can occur later in life when the chickenpox virus, which stays dormant in nerves after the original bout of chickenpox, becomes reactivated. It is possible to catch chickenpox from someone who has shingles but it is not possible to catch shingles at all.

    Chickenpox mainly affects children. More than 90 percent of people have had chickenpox by the age of 16. Most children catch chickenpox in the pre-school or early school years and it is almost always a relatively minor illness.It can be caught by adults though, when it is a much more serious infection that can cause quite a few complications.
