The river Nile has two main tributaries, the White Nile and the Blue Nile. The White Nile originates from the Great Lake region of Central Africa and has most distant source in south of Rwanda. The Blue Nile originates from Lake Tana in Ethiopia. The White Nile flows through Tanzania, Lake Victoria, Uganda and Southern Sudan. The Blue Nile that flows into Sudan from the southeast meets the White near Khartoum, the capital of Sudan.
Nile is considered to be the longest river flowing on earth but some experts refute the claim and they give the honour to the Amazon. The length of the river Nile is 6,695 kilometres and it ends in a big delta which empties in the Mediterranean Sea.
The river Nile has the distinction of supporting much of the population living along her banks; otherwise they would have to face the inhospitable region of Sahara.
