The movie shantaram is scheduled to release in the year 2008. The movie's rights have been bought over by Johnny Depp. And Brad Pitt is co-producing it. The movie is being directed by Mira Nair of the namesake and Johnny Depp is playing the lead role. The movie has been adapted from the novel of the same name written by Gregory David Roberts. The screenplay has been written by Eric Roth and the production is scheduled to start in the fall of this year.

Gregory David Roberts is the author of the internationally best selling book called 'Shantaram'. He was an armed robber, a heroin addict and a drug dealer himself.
