If You Were Devising A Course In Directing, Aside From Script Analysis, What Else Would You Include?

Answer Question

Script analysis is one of the most important tools of the director in his or her work in preparation and in working with the actors in the rehearsal room.  Experience of working with professional actors rather than amateurs or students is also vital, no directing course worth its salt should be without this component.

A director must be a jack of all trades and a master of them too.
Scenic design, sound, lighting and costume studies would all provide the director with key reference skills in developing the production with the aid of his or her team.  The greater these skills, the easier it is for the director to conceive of the entire production.

A strong understanding of the process of the actor. I would insist that anyone studying acting should also have trodden the boards themselves, this will help to find a language or grammar of acting to share with the actors in rehearsal.
