Is Platinum Trust Card A Scam?

The question as to whether the Platinum Trust Card is a scam is not only a very grey are but is also open to each individuals’ personal interpretation. If you research it on the internet you will find there are plenty of people who have been duped into thinking it is a credit card and there are a considerable number of complaints online regarding this particular card.

Many people take it as a scam because they think that they are getting a normal credit card with which they can use in any high street shop or supermarket. However, this is not the case.

With this card you certainly get a credit card account, yes, but it can only be used on a specific online store and that is all.  This is clearly stated on the companies’ website if you read the small print. You cannot use it to shop or purchase goods anywhere else.

If you on the Net Trust website there is a pre-acceptance disclosure, the small print, that states that "this product is not a Visa, Mastercard or Debit Card” and that it "can only be used by an account holder to shop exclusively at our online shopping website”.  This clearly tells you that it is not a credit card and that you can only use it in one specific place only.

Although it does say that you get "a credit card account” which maybe what is confusing people into thinking it is a normal credit card, it does not have the flexibility that other credit cards have and therefore cannot be used as one. As with normal credit cards there are certain fees attached to this card and should you apply for the card and be approved for it then the fees will have to be paid.

Only once these fees have been paid and the card had been received and have tried to use it does the realisation kick in, so it it is easy to see why people applying for this card are less than happy at paying these fees and then finding out that what they have got is not what they thought they were getting which is easy to see why it is seen as a scam.

Platinum trust really isn't located in UT. The address to where platinum trust actually really is located is 419 Johnson st Jenkintown Pa also at 453 johnson st Jenkintown pa. There is a office in delaware but I'm not sure the address. So when a rep from platinum trust calls you, is from either address. Unless they give you a 302 number then its from the DE office. The owners names are Blake Rubin and Chase Rubin. They both work in the offices in Jenkintown. So if you ever call the customer service number and you ask for them, they will tell you they don't work there but they truely do.. Also if you ask to speak to a supervisor, there really isn't on. The people in customer service takes turns acting as supervisors. The only "supervisor" that works there is the manager. His name is Chad Kligman but is fake name is James Evans. The reason I know this is because I used to work there before I quit. If you to know anything else just ask....ill give you the true answers and not the bullshit they will give you.

Kevin is correct. I have got some many lying about the Rubin's and DEREK M. Supposed manager sounded different both times I spoke to him. Yet said he was same guy. I am contacting a news team in Utah and in PA. Everyone do this and see what comes out of it.

Yes they are a scam. A man called me and told me that the card was like an american express card and I can use it anywhere with a unsecured line of credit of 9500. They say they got my information from a payday loan and that I could get this card because I took out that payday loan. I know that my credit wasnt all that great so I was kind of hesitated about getting the card but thought someone was giving me a chance since I was paying good on my loan. I work with telemarking so I asked certain question to make sure that it was on the up and up. Not once did the man tell me it was a online shopping card. I asked can I pay my bills and use just like a regular credit card and he said yeah. I never got an email nor never got the card and when I learn that it was an online shopping card I called to see if I could get my 89.00 back and he the representative was down right rude. He didnt care about nothing, he got smart and disrespectful and he even hung up on me. He said he was the manager and I said no way you have no customer service skills. I called back thinking I could get someone different and got the same dude and he told me he don't have time to listen to me whine and weep I wasnt getting my money back.  I then google them and found a customer service number and spoke to someone esle and she said she would past my information along. When I logged on here and saw all the different stories about them I was beyond belief. I can't believe these people do these things. I called them back and told them that I was going to dispute this with my bank and I was going to check with a lawyer and see if there is some legal charges for misrepresentaion that I can file. Then he put me on hold and then comes back with someone esle and say they are going to refund my fee. I still waiting to see if they do if not I am going to take further action. THESE PEOPLE ARE TRUELY A SCAM!

I had applied for a pay day loan that I didn’t follow through with. My information, including my bank info, was apparently sold to Platinum Trust card whom proceeded to call me relentlessly. Finally I answered the call to be presented with an offer that seemed too good to be true...it was. This is a credit card with an approximate 9000 dollar limit offered to help people with bad credit. I paid 89 dollars for the credit card. If I had not canceled the credit card a 19 dollar monthly fee would have been charged to ensure payments are reported to credit bureau each month. However I was completely unaware through the whole process that this credit card may only be used through their website to purchase items and nowhere else. I was lead to believe it was a normal credit card that can be used anywhere. When I asked if I could use it anywhere like a normal card, the subject was changed, the representative asked where I liked to shop instead of answering my question. He made it seem as though I could make my purchases anywhere I liked. I would have NEVER agreed to pay for a credit card had I known it was solely for use on a specific website. I was mislead with deceptive and deceitful marketing. I thought that I asked all the right questions as to not get scammed. I am not the only person that this has happened to, there is a myriad of internet postings from other victims of this deception. When I finally reached a representative on 10/1/10 (they took my funds 9/27/10, I had been calling to no avail since that date.) She explained they could not refund my 89 dollars unless the original person I spoke with failed to tell me ..I forget exactly what  but it was some vague description of the credit cards uses weather I understood it or not.  My question is how could this be legal? Furthermore, is it legal to charge a fee upfront for a line of credit? I should not have to pay for something I was tricked into buying. These people are preying on people that have money woes to begin with. Someone PLEASE stand up for the little guy!!!

Yes, this company misrepresented there selfs.   The company is a legitament company but lie about who and what they really are. Here is how the company really works, First, you have to pay the up front fee ranging from $69.00 to $99.00. This comes out of your account RIGHT then and they use your check card so that they get paid. ( However you can call your bank and dispute the bill and get reimbursed and then the bank will go after them FYI ) Second, they try to tell you you can use the card at retailers and this is not true.   You can only use there card at there on-line store they have set up.   Third, there is no line of credit at first you have to pay for the item in FULL up front before you can get it, as you spend money with them then they give you a little credit at a time.   They will take $19 out of your account monthly as well and use that money to pay for reporting you credit to the reporting agencys ( yea right ) Here is some numbers and address I have found out about them. Customer service 800-590-7929 Las Vagas, 302-342-1552. ???   / 4001 South 700 East, Salt Lake City. UT. 84107-2523   or 1827 East Boulder Springs, St. Geroge, UT 84790.   Last but not least anyone on here telling you this is not a scam is lie ing and really does work for these people or they are just mean people trying to get you too.   Please pass this on to everyone so they know the truth!!!!!   Thank You and God Bless      P.S.   If you really want to help improve you credit score get a pre-paid VISA and pay on it early every month and this should help.

And I feel anyone writing a good post does work for the company do the math look at all of the complaints. This same thing happened to my boss but once I was contacted I didn't put 2 & 2 together til after it almost happened to me. Thank God I was able to stop it before being scammed by this company.

Its a HUGE scam, they took 89.00 out of my account three weeks ago, and I still never recieved a card, so when I called customer service they said they still havent recieved the money even though it was already taken out of my account, so I called my bank to see where my money was and they had said that the money was taken out and CLEARED which means those asshole are a bunch of liars, the man who was talking to me on the phone, telling me about the card said it was like an american express, and it could be used everywhere! Its such a scam...EWW I'm hot!

I received a phone call from  "Josh Bowers," (a representative of Platinum Trust Card) who stated that I was pre-approved for a $9,500 credit card.  I was automatically suspicious as due to some issues, my financial status is not the greatest; therefore, how could I be pre-approved.  Long story short, when I asked him to email the information to me, he seemed to turn kind of gruff and replied that they do not have the information online, which I pointed out to him.  He chalked it up to not feeling well.  (Uh, huh) Anyway, asked him for a phone number.  He then proceeded to tell me the last four digits of my bank account.  After a moment of perplexity, I figured that he somehow hacked into a Pay in Advance site, as that is the only time I've ever entered my bank account #.  Thankfully, it's my "dummy" account; I only use it to cash checks; I do not keep my account above $10.  (I digress) When he gave me the #, it was a 302 area code.  Although I am keenly aware that many major credit and banks are located in Wilmington, DE, it just didn't sit well w/me that he gave me a 302 phone # and not a toll free #.  (insert an "uh huh" here)  He called from (302) 526-4898; the so-called customer svc # is (302) 482-8651.  I stopped the convo when I told him that I was not going to divulge my bank account # to give him an $89.00 fee.  I told him that before I give ANY information to him, that I was going to completely research Platinum Trust Card.  Nevertheless, that was on July 22, 2010; today is Aug. 3, 2010, & I haven't heard back from him.  Anything that sounds too good to be true is!  Always conduct research before agreeing to divulging your personal account information.  Hopefully, my commentary will help someone.

Well, when I spoke with the representative from the company, I asked them several questions....I wanted to know about the interest rates and apr rates which were none...which was true...I asked about where I could use it at and if I could pay bills or use it anywhere....response was "only online
usage".....which I found to be true....I also asked about the stores. I asked if the online stores included Walmart, Target, etc...I was told yes...Once I received my card I was very displeased. It was about 10 store sites that I never heard of with outragious prices. You have to click on the "so called" stores and find an item that you are interested in. The prices are very expensive. You have to pay for 51% of the cost of the item up front. For example...If you buy an item that is around $80-90 your initial payment that you are expected to pay up front is around $68-70.  You can do the preferred route which will cost you around $12 instead along with the shipping and handling. But here's the catch. You will not receive the item until the entire inital payment, which was the $68-70 is received. I cancelled out my card the first day I received it. So be aware...I'm just pissed that I paid $89 for it...never ever again....Remember this... If it sounds too good to be true then it probably is.

Scam... Scam... Scam!!   I was scammed personally.   We specifically asked if it was for online shopping only.   I also asked   if it could be used anywhere a Visa or MasterCard could be used and they said "Well we will put it this way, you can make any purchases you choose".   That is not true.... It might build up your credit, not sure.   They are very misleading and unwilling to cancel it.   They never admitted to their misleading and continue to say that I just misunderstood them even when they retrieved the taped call and heard it for themselves while I listened as well.   They refuse to refund the $89. They said that they canceled the card and the $19/month will not come out, but I just talked to my bank and they are assisting in the matter.   I was informed from the bank that they can still take out the $19/mo out, so I need to cancel my card all together!!   Be careful.   I am now a much more informed person and have been told, research, research, and research!!   If they are legit, they will wait for a call back and and give names, numbers, and answer questions with yes and no answers not beat around the bush!!   Remember.... This is a scam!

Platinum Trust called me for a 1 whole week when I finally spok with someone they said that they received my info from 1 of their creditors they never mentioned a name and they throw you off with that $9500 credit approval. Stop being greedy and do your research 1st I knew it was too good to be true once he told I needed to pay up front I set a date up 1st to do my research. After the call I googled for info saw that is was a scam called my credit card company had my card canceled and a new one shipped to me. After that was complete someone from Platinum TTrust called I said hello he hung up. Also the 1st rep I spoke too said something to me that stood out he said when making your payment 1 of the ladies would gladly assist you. So what your telling me is that all reps in your billing dept are women? Just made me think something was funny with this company and the rep sure was chipper you don't really get that a lot these days either. Also here's the number where they called me from it's in Delaware 302-526-4898. To increase credit score get a secured card from an actual credit card bank and useit responsibly! Pay on time. Prepaid cards do not report to credit bureaus but legitimate secured cards do. They will eventually raise your limit if you pay on time.. Raised my score 60 points in three months. This crap on here is a ripoff.

It is so definitely a scam. I called the Cust svc # and the lady informed me that I could not get my $89 back. I informed her that I was going to call my bank if they did not. She put me on hold and then quickly came back on and told me she was going to refund my money which should be in my account in 3 business days. I then called my bank and if it is not refunded I am going to file against them.

Trust me, it's a scam. They're so-called "line of credit" isn't true. Oh, they'll give you a card alright, but you can't use the credit until you buy something in full price. They're so-called "lowest price guarantee" also is not true. They jack up the price so high that you'll be forced to claim that guarantee. In effect, they'll give it to you for the price found in other sites. What did you save, then? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!

How can you be held responsible for agreeing to the T&C when you did NOT Actually apply online or EVER read their T&C and they took out the money anyways, without your consent.  Also how the hell do they already have my bank account information, which I NEVER provided to them.  And How do they "know" you are trying to apply for credit or whatever?  Also how the hell do they get a cell phone number with which to call you.  Why would a legitimate company take money out of a bank account that they supposedly don't know any of the information to, and need your card number to be able to withdraw from.  Also why every time I call back do I get voice activated service and every time I get through all of the damn windows I get their voice automated system AGAIN?

I recieved a call from these people, and the salesman was SO intent on getting me to just commit, that he answered my queries regarding it being used for purchases very clouded and vague, rushing to press for a sale. Flags went up, and after waiting for nearly 10mins on hold for customer service, I directly and pointedly asked the service rep if I could use this card for buying groceries, paying utility bills, car note, etc. The reply was no, it can only be used for their online store. So if you need to use it for anything but getting into more debt, I would say do your homework, investigate until you are satisfied, and make a decision accordingly. This wasn't the type of deal for me.

Yes, yes, yes...this is a scam, it is not a credit card. Look, they are a legit business. Read the terms and policy on their website. Everything that people are complaining about is in their terms and policy. They suck in customer care. The bbb gives them a d- on a scale of A to F as in school grades. They state that they are an online store and that it is not a visa, mastercard or american express. They state that you have to pay 51% on the first or all payments. Just go to their website and read the terms and policy. You should read that no matter what kind of business it is. Talk about do your research.  Good luck

I feel that we are scammed... We are calling our bank and disbuting our charges.  We got the card today and can't activate it and it doesn't even look like a real credit card.  It is unreal how people get away with this in todays day and age.  We need to bring these people down!

A lot of times the charge card companies take 15 to 20 days to deliver. On the website you should be able to get a customer service number.

Its a pretty good card, if you just make a small purchase and pay off the minimum monthly payments they do actually help increase your credit score by reporting to transunion for you

Call your bank and if you file a claim they should reimburse you. Also go to ripoff report.com and file a report. When companies see this that run scams they usually won't complete the pending payment. It scares the companies. Good Luck

It is not a scam, it works if you are patient and actually trying to build your credit. Companies cannot overdraft your account you have to provide them with your account information. If you do so you are authorizing them to debit your account. Jesus is the Lord.
