Millwall Football Club was founded in 1885 although it was originally called Millwall Rovers. It was formed by a group of workers from the JT Morton Iron Merchants company that was based on the Isle of Dogs in the area of Millwall.
Because of this location, the club's nickname was 'the Dockers' until 1900 when Millwall surprisingly got to the semi-final of the FA cup. From then on, they have been known as 'the Lions'.

Millwall Rovers were founder members of the Southern League which was formed in 1894. They won the title of this league in it's opening year and again in 1895, as well as winning the Western League in 1908 and 1909.

Millwall Football Club currently play at the New Den Stadium which has a capacity for approximately 20,000 people. The club played on four different grounds on the Isle of Dogs after it's formation, but settled on the Den in 1910. They stayed here for 83 years until the move in 1993.

Millwall currently reside in League One division after being relegated from the Championship in 2005/06 season.
