Is There A Trick To Laying Carpet?

Answer Question

First you need to gather the correct tools. A strip cutter is good, as it quickly cuts tackless strip. You should join your peices of carpet using a seam tape and a seaming iron. To tighten your carpet, you use either a knee kicker or power stretcher, and a carpet trimmer will help cut neatly along the walls.

Move all furniture from the room which you will be carpeting, and make sure that the floor is free of any high spots before you start. It might be wise to level out your floor with floor leveling compound and if your floor is too badly worn, then perhaps underlayment would be a good idea.

Make sure there is no dust on the floor before you start. If you are using squares rather than a large section of carpet, then start by laying the squares in the corner, using your weight to press them down. Carpet squares are an easier option, as you can reposition them easily if you make a mistake.
