More commonly known as a 'love-bite', a hickey at the outset can be described as a red welt. It is a form of sexual expression. It is a discoloration of the skin, a bruise, really caused by prolonged suction of the mouth against the skin. However harsh as it sounds, they are broken blood vessels just beneath your skin. In order to give a hickey, put your mouth against the side of their neck, in a kissing shape. You leave your mouth slightly open in the middle, like you're saying the letter "O" and then suck in. You suck the skin into your mouth, in essence hurting it, and causing the blood vessels to break. This turns that circular area bright red.Hickeys are used as a primitive sort of way amongst the teenage class to mark possession of their loved ones. It naturally fades away after a few days.
