Why Is It Called Quebec?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The name Quebec comes from the Algonquin word ‘kepek’ which means narrow. This name was given because of the area where the Saint Lawrence River narrows to into a gap which is lined by cliffs. The name Québec was chosen in 1608 by the French explorer by the name of Samuel de Champlin who chose this spot as his outpost from where he would admisnister the French colony of New France.
