I would make sure that you talk about the good times that you had with the pup, and know that she is going to wait for you in heaven. I would consider getting a puppy now, so that when your dog does pass, you will know the new puppy well enough to grieve with that one. They know when you are down, and they try their hardest to help you out. Hope this helps, good luck.

If you get another puppy soon, your old dog will show it the way to be...and it will grow into its replacement as it should... True dog owners , really love their pet and treat them like family, and just like anything else in family it is our job to keep the tradition alive...so getting a new puppy to take the place if the old one will make you much happier than you realize now....

I think you are and have been preparing for it and that will help you to accept it. Our beagle was fairly young (10) and got a kidney disease that made her go down hill very fast. It was very difficult to accept. i don't think you ever get completely over it, its almost like a relative passing away. We haven't gotten another dog because we are not sure we ever want to have to go thru it again. One thing that will help if it possible (just my opinion) is if you cant keep the dog home until it has passed away rather than having a vet put to sleep. We had to have the vet do it because of extreme pain and we had to make the decision and give the vet the ok. Most of the time even with a relative you don't have to make that kind of a decision and live with it. But if it comes down to that sort of a situation, you are doing the best thing possible for the animal. I really believe that dogs have a sense of dignity. Best wishes to you and you
