What Tips Do You Have Regarding A 200Tdi Engine Rebuild?

You will need a good quality hoist and revolving engine stand. Tdi engines aren't the lightest around, the cylinder block alone, for example, weighs around 80kg. As well as lifting the engine out and in with the hoist, a revolving stand is a good investment as they are incredibly useful when dismantling Land Rover engines that aren't exactly designed to be manhandled.

Keep the work area clean, all components, tools and work surfaces should be free of dust and grit.

Take care in assessing the condition of each component removed and deciding which parts need machining. As a rule of thumb, never re-use a component unless its life expectancy is at least 100,000 miles. Don't skimp on buying new parts and ensure they are of a standard at least as high as the original if not using genuine Land Rover parts.

If you are unsure about a procedure or a setting, don't guess, if in doubt, check it out. If you don't get expert advice, it could be a very expensive mistake that only appears after the rebuild is complete.
