What Is The Standard Of Living Like In And Around Aberystwyth?

Answer Question

Aberystwyth is a holiday resort and University town lying in the middle of three hills and two beaches. It has the ruins of a castle, a pier, and a harbor. It is a lively town with a student population of roughly 7000. The sea coast has 4-5 stories Victorian buildings. Once upon a time the harbor was quite busy but not any more. The local people have learnt to make use of the available resources and acquire more to support themselves, over time. It is now the centre of local rural life and there are many visitors. The town has numerous cafés, bars, and restaurants with various kinds of cuisines such as Chinese, Indian, Italian and Mediterranean.

Standard of living is a very comparative term and nothing can be said absolutely. However, it should be OK to say that the standard of living is above average if we compare Aberystwyth with other first world countries. Everyone may not be living in huge air conditioned houses but there is general cleanliness and hygiene with comfortable amenities everywhere. If we compare property prices they are definitely less than California USA, but quite comparable to good residential areas of Dallas TX. There is a cosmopolitan ambience in this resort town where we can get quality night life and entertainment in crowded bars, renowned restaurants and good accommodation.

Aberystwth does have alot to offer being the administrative centre of Ceredigion.
As for job oppurtunities in Aberystwyth, the town has the National Library of Wales, Bronglais Hospital, local Government and the University of Wales as well as local retail outlets. In the countryside around the town agricultural is strong and the coastal areas are well developed for tourism.
There many places of historical interest and large towns and cities such as Chester and Birmingham are within easy travelling distance.
Smaller settlements such as Borth , a few miles from Aberystwyth have a strong tourist link offering caravan and other accomodation and good beaches.
The standard of living does vary as there is a high student population but the oppurunities do exist for reasonably priced housing and a pleasant environment and employment dependent on your qualifications and job availability at any one time.
