Since he can't see you that means he doesn't know what your expression is.  When a person smiles their voice sounds different - it sounds upbeat and positive.  So try to keep a smile in your voice :)  If you run out of something to say, that isn't the go-ahead to start gossiping about someone.  I've got 2 sons and they really don't like it when girls bad-mouth other girls.  It makes them sound petty or jealous.  Let him call you - only a creeper keeps calling guys when the guys don't call back.

Talk about pets, vacations, school, parents, brother/sisters.  Talk about a place that kids like to go and maybe he'll ask you to go there with him. :)  I hope this helps - good luck :)
