How Do You Write In French?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

French is hailed as a Romance a language and writing in French is similar to writing in English as the same characters are used. In addition there are a number of peculiarities about the language.

For instance there are the different accents which are appended to the letters of the alphabet. There is the acute accent (called l'accent aigü in French). It is that little dash you see on the top, which slants downward, as in "é", from right to left. The grave accent (which is known as l'accent grave), is the one you see on top of "è". There is the diaeresis (which is called le tréma), the two dots above the letter as in "ë".  Then there is the cedilla (which in French is known as la cédille), as in, "ç". Finally there is the circumflex (in French it is called l'accent circonflexe) as in the accent on top of "ê".
