With Which Club Did Nigel WInterburn Begin His Playing Career?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Nigel WInterburn first signed professionally for Birmingham CIty in nineteen eighty one.  Although he spent a season with the St Andrews outfit he never played a game for the first team and was transferred to Oxford United in eighty two.

A similar pattern followed with Winterburn failing to break into the first team with Oxford either.  In eighty three Dave Basset came in for the left back and signed him for the South London club Wimbledon, the home of the infamous crazy gang.

After failing to make the grade with his first two clubs, WInterburn settled well into the Wimbledon dressing room and soon made his way into the first team.  In four years with the club, he made two hundred league appearances for the Dons before singing for George Graham's Arsenal in nineteen eighty seven, just one year before the Crazy gang, led by Bobby Gould won the FA cup.
