The largest city of Maine is Portland, and is also the county seat of Cumberland County. The motto of the city is “I will rise again”. It was settled in 1633 and officially incorporated on 1786. The total area of the city is 52.6 square miles out of which 31.4 square miles is water. According to the census of 2000, the population of the city was 64,249. It has the Portland harbor along the Fore River.
