Normally it is heard that animals feed on plants as their main source of food. As surprisingly diverse as nature's tactics could be, there are some plants too, which feed on insects and some other tiny animals, using them as their food, their main source to grow. These plants are called insectivorous plants.
Like animals feed on plants by chewing them, plants have a whole different mechanism of devouring their food. In lieu of chewing the animals, plants, after catching their prey, decompose them in a mixture of different enzymes. For instance, the pitcher plant attracts the insects to its large showy leaf by its sweet smelling nectar. Once the unsuspecting creature is near enough, the leaf incarcerates the victim into a deep hollow pitcher, which is filled with a digestive fluid that helps to decompose the captured prey. Other types of insectivorous plants include the Venus's flytraps as one of the important names.
