Mustafa Kamal was a true patriot. He loved his country and countrymen and was deeply interested in their welfare. Soon after assuming power, he made many reforms in educational, economic and cultural fields. These reforms paved the path for the prosperity and progress of his country.
Mustafa Kamal gave fundamental importance to educate. There was no state education in Turkey and it was difficult to teach the masses. Mustafa Kamal knew the hindrances on the way. First of all he launched a program to simplify the Turkish language. The difficult Arab script was replaced by the easy Roman script. He also set up a committee to purity the language which discarded the flowery phrases and elaborate expression.
Mustafa Kamal paid great attention towards social set up of Turkey. He abolished old titles and elaborates modes of address. The word "Pasha" replaced by "Bay" which was used for every man and every woman became "Bayan". He replaced Greek "Fez" by hats and made wearing hats compulsory which gave a new identity to Turks. He abolished veil and asked women to come forward and work for progress of country. Mustafa Kamal was well aware that all of his efforts bring the desired results if his country progressed in the industrial field. He paid attention to the development of roads and railways. He revolutionized the banking system which promoted industry. Under the leadership of Mustafa Kamal Turkish population came shoulder to shoulder with advanced European countries.
