Answer Question

2 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

The only poisonous mammal in the world is male platypus or duckbill. It has poison glands near the thighs. The poison is very much like snake venom.

The platypus or duckbill is the strange creature in the earth. It has a bill like duck, a tail like a beaver. It lays eggs and hatches them like a bird. But it feeds its young with milk like a mammal. With the help of webfoot it can live both on land and in the water. The platypus or duckbill lives in eastern Australia and Tasmania. It has no external ears and the nostrils are near the end of the soft, rubbery bill.

The platypus feeds at night on earth worms, water insects and crayfish. During the day it crawls into its nest.

Poison - a toxin that causes its effect through ingestion or absorption

Venom - a toxin that causes its effect through administration via a specialized delivery system.

The Platypus administers its venom through claws on the back legs, making the Platypus Venomous, not Poisonous.
