What Is The Lincoln Center?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Lincoln Center was once one of the poorest sections in New York City.  Today, however, it is a vibrant haven for the arts in four blocks. It holds an opera house, a ballet school, a music hall, an outdoor band theatre, and a performing arts library. It also has an association with the world famous Julliard school whose students often perform at Lincoln Center.

Even if you don't go to a concert or performance, there is much to see at Lincoln Center. Henry Moore's famous sculpture, Reclining Figure, overlooks the reflecting pool. The Metropolitan Opera House holds Marc Chagall's murals. There is also a plaza fountain by Philip Johnson.

A rich and compelling group of arts troupes and companies call Lincoln Center their home.  It is the place to go to see the New York City Ballet, New York City Opera, Metropolitan Opera Company or the New York Philharmonic. This is only a sample - fifteen different troupes and companies regularly perform at Lincoln Center.  It is apparent that Lincoln Center has transformed from a poverty-stricken neighbourhood to a world-renowned arts venue.
