Where To Get A Nuchal Scan Done?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

A nuchal scan can be done at a prenatal clinic. It is an ultrasound scan that helps to determine whether a foetus is at a higher risk of being afflicted by Down's Syndrome or not. A nuchal scan is a prenatal screening ultrasound scan. The ideal time to carry out the nuchal scan is when a pregnant woman is in the third month of her first trimester of pregnancy. That is, it should ideally be done when the woman is about 11 to 13 weeks into her pregnancy.

It is also known as a nuchal translucency scan. The nuchal translucency scan is abbreviated As the NT scan. The scan determines how much fluid is present behind the neck of the foetus. This process is known as nuchal translucency. Foetuses which have a higher nuchal translucency are those that generally have a higher amount of fluid present at the back of their necks. These babies are at a higher risk of suffering from Down's syndrome.
