Acrylic nails are found everywhere now and many local beauticians and hairdressers offer this service, which can be done on the fingers and the toe nails.

The styles vary from the classic French manicure look, to nail tips and full nail art. In the French manicure look, the person's own nails are cut very short and their nails are prepared for the false acrylic French nail, which is then cut to size. If your own nails are in good condition and a reasonable length, you can have an acrylic coating applied over them.

This strengthens the nail itself, preventing it breaking and tearing and the nail is then usually covered with a coloured polish. Because the underlying acrylic surface is a better one for the varnish, these nails don't chip or fade and look good still after two weeks.

Nails of both types need to be infilled every two weeks though – because the nail grows at the bottom leaving a gap. Infilling is cheaper can be done many times, so, if you have the money, you can have perfect nails for as long as you keep going for the infill treatment.

It depends on who does them. My best friend does nails and I had them on for a long time - over a year, until I decided to just grow my real nails out. Do NOT let anyone put porcaline on your nails, it kills the nerves and does a lot of other damage. Most of the time, little cheap Asian places use that stuff, so it is best to avoid them.
