What Does Mendota Mean?

The word Mendota is a Dakota name meaning "confluence of waters", "mouth of a River" or "meetings of waters" or even "bend in the river". The Great Sioux Nation is an ethnic group of Native American people. Within the Sioux are three sub groups. The sub group of Isanti is often also called the Dakota, and it is from their tongue that the name Mendota has originated.

Mendota is the name of several places in the United States. Mendota is the name of a city in California's Fresco County. It has a population of less than eight thousand. Nearly half the population is Mexican and they are almost all of them immigrant. Mendota is also the name of a city in Illinois's La Salle County. There is also appropriately a city called Mendota in Minnesota's Dakota County.
