The 'Moby Dick' is a slightly irreverent nickname for the Porsche 935/78. The 935 was the racing version of the Porsche 930, which was launched in 1976. It had a very long front and rear, hence the nickname. Moby Dick arrived on the scene in 1978, as its name would suggest.
It had tremendous power, being fitted with a staggering 3.2 litre engine, as well as 4 water cooled cylinder heads. It reached speeds of 360 km per hour at the racing track of Le Mans in France.
The name is viewed as irreverent, due to the finesse of the Porsche as a brand, with its motto 'There Is No Substitute'.
The Porsche was first launched in 1931 by an engineer named Ferdinand Porsche, who was also the engineer responsible for creating the volkswagen. The VW was the People's Car, but Porsche was definitely for the exclusive set !
