The movie "Summer Holiday" is about four young lads who take a double decker bus to Europe for a holiday. Along the way they meet up with three young women who join them on the trip. And then it turns out that a young man has stowed away on the bus, which complicates matters, especially when it turns out that he is actually a young woman!

Ruislip Lido, in Middlesex, started out in 1811 as Ruislip Reservoir, and was later turned into a lido, the whole area of which spans 150 acres of recreational ground and water.

The lido was used as a set for various movies in the sixties including "The Young Ones".

Part of "Summer Holiday" was also shot at Ruislip Lido, and this is mentioned in the accounts given by people who used to use the lido regularly at that time. The filming was done on the sandy side of the lido, presumably to look like a beach in the South of France, which was where the bus was headed!
