What Are The Best Ways To Begin Writing A Story For A Magazine Or A Newspaper Article?

A. Start your pieces with something that will shock the readers and make them want to go on. It is important for you to capture their interest at the very beginning. This is considered the hook.
    
Example:  I was blind once!  For six long weeks I was unable to see anything.  (In this case the reader will want to know why you were blind, what caused your vision to return, and other things that will make someone want to read more!

B. Start your article with a question or several questions that will make the reader think about himself or herself.
          
Example:  What would you do if you knew beyond a doubt that this was the last day of your life? How would that day differ from what you normally do?

C. Start your writing with a quote. (Be sure to give the author of that quotation if known.)

Example: "Our joys will be greater, our love will be deeper, and our life will be fuller because we shared your moment." -Author unknown
