How Many Neutrons Does A Atom Of Magnesium Have?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Magnesium is a chemical substance with symbol Mg. The atomic number of magnesium is 12. The atomic mass of magnesium is 24. Atomic number of an atom is equal to the number of protons present in an atom. On the other hand, atomic mass is equal to the sum of number of neutrons and number of protons in an atom. The number of neutron is equal to the difference of atomic mass and atomic number.

    Atomic mass = 24

    Atomic number = 12

Number of neutron = atomic mass - atomic number

    Number of neutrons = 24 - 12

Number of neutrons in magnesium atom = 12
