It could mean a number of different things. You car computer is sending back an error code. It could be a bad sensor etc. Take your car to a local auto parts store. Usually they will run a code check on you car for free and tell you what is causing your light to come on.

First, we need a little more info. Is it newer than 1995, or older. If newer, take it to any autozone in the country. They will access your car's OBD II computer system with their handheld diagnostic interface tool which will read out any existing trouble codes along with a short explanation of what it (they) mean. If older -- well, let's cross that bridge if we come to it. Let me know!
