Which Disney Film Was The Predecessor To 'The Lion King'?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The Lion King's predecessor was Aladdin, which was Disney's 31st animated feature. It was released in 1992, and was the most successful film of that year. It had over $217 million in domestic revenues and over $504 million worldwide.

Aladdin won several awards, including Best Music, Original Score and Best Music, Original Song ('A Whole New World').

Aladdin was followed by two sequels and a television series. The Return of Jafar was the first direct-to-video sequel, released in 1994. It was praised by critics, though the film has often been criticised for its animation. The second sequel, Aladdin and the King of Thieves, was also direct-to-video, and was released in 1996. It grossed $180 million, and became the fourth highest grossing direct-to-video animated feature film of all time.

Aladdin was preceded by Beauty and the Beast (1991), which was Disney's 30th animated film.
